~Happy Thanksgiving~

Here at Lily Winston Thanksgiving is a warm and inclusive gathering. In our homes, family and friends both old and new, feast on lovingly prepared holiday dishes and engage in wonderful conversation while reflecting on our many blessings. As we prepare our homes for the upcoming festivities, we hope you will enjoy our ideas for creating a warm and inviting ambience for your guests throughout the season.

The Table Setting

Setting the table family style encourages connection while passing dishes to share. It also stimulates delightful conversations. Food is served and eaten on traditional dinnerware that creates a warm and familiar feeling inside all who gather here. We love to make our table setting elegant, but never overly opulent, with heirloom linens, crystal, and sterling flatware to complement our holiday china.

This season we are choosing to use the Woodland Collection from Spode, which is reminiscent of the first Thanksgiving’s landscape, featuring woodland foul surrounded by a stately border.

Martha Stewart’s photo of Fall’s lush scenery inspires our choices of colors and textures to enhance our table setting. We suggest covering the table with linens to add warmth, texture, and color because it’s all about making everyone feel welcome and comfortable while dining.

A Dish for All

Lily Winston cooks to fill hearts and stomachs with love. Hours of joy are spent preparing dishes. There’s no stress because we always remember it’s about welcoming our guests, not the food. The process of cooking with children and family is one to be cherished too. We prepare traditional Thanksgiving comfort food including mashed potatoes and green bean casserole along with pumpkin and pecan pie.

We may include non-traditional Thanksgiving dishes on the occasion that we are blessed to welcome international guests to our table. Consider preparing familiar dishes from their culture. Our goal is to make everyone feel like their dining comfortably at home with new friends.

Dress Comfortably

Hosting any gathering requires advanced preparation including your fashion choices. In addition to entertaining your guests and creating a warm and inviting setting, there will be time spent preparing the Thanksgiving feast. Your choice of attire should reflect an effortless sense of style and understated elegance to welcome your guests the moment you open the door. Please no ugly sweaters with giant turkeys or silly pumpkins! To protect your beautiful holiday attire while in the kitchen, we love this mature apron from Anthropologie.

As a guest, a thoughtful gift to your host is always appreciated. Consider giving a delectable box of chocolates like these from Maggie Louise Confections.

At Lily Winston we are most comfortable in classics like button ups, cardigans, and leopard prints. We primarily wear neutral colors because they’re timeless and easy to match. Here’s an example of what we will welcome guests in this Thanksgiving.

You can style this outfit with your favorite pieces hanging in your closet, but we don’t blame you if you rush out to get the gold, sculpted heeled boots from Giuseppe Zanotti. The most important pieces in this outfit are the leopard print button-up, black shoes, and gold toned jewelry. Choose the shoe that fits your style and lifestyle best. Make sure you tuck the shirt into the black jeans to define your waist. Next, throw on the long cardigan, pulling the leopard print sleeves out far enough so the cuff peeks out from under the cardigan. Roll the sleeves up if you need to.

Lastly, an outfit is incomplete without jewelry! Wear your favorite gold jewelry to play off the leopard print and gold heels on the shoes. We are a fan of the classic Tiffany T Square Bracelet and Kate Spade Stud Hoop Earrings.

Share Your Blessings and Give Back

May we all be ever mindful this holiday season and throughout the year of those less fortunate than ourselves. This year our Lily Winston family will be making a donation to “Feed America”, a national organization working to end hunger. Another option would be to donate an hour of your time in the service of others at one of your local homeless shelter.
